Avenue de la République and the belfry
Avenue de la République crosses Montrouge from north to south and concentrates most of the shops, bars and brasseries. In its middle, the belfry of the town hall, more than fifty metres tall, stands against the Greater Paris sky. The terraces under the plane trees come alive as soon as the weather turns mild: a beer at the end of the day, a lunch dish of the day, and the evening can easily extend without leaving the avenue.
Place Émile-Cresp and the market
Just behind the town hall, Place Émile-Cresp has become one of the Montrougiens’ favourite meeting places, especially on market days, Wednesday and Sunday morning. Stalls of cheesemakers, greengrocers and fishmongers recall a village feel on the edge of Paris. Meeting here for a coffee or a croissant and then wandering the surrounding streets makes the kind of unstaged first date where everything feels natural.
Robert-Bacqué Park and the Salon
For a green break, Robert-Bacqué Park, the largest in the town, offers playgrounds, large lawns and shaded paths. On the culture side, the Salon de Montrouge, created in 1955 at the belfry, has become a must-see showcase of emerging contemporary artists. On Lyad, Montrouge singles share their small favourite addresses; it is up to you to find someone to pick the next bench under the trees with.
